Inktober 2011!

October is here and so is Inktober 2011!

What is Inktober?,” you ask. Created by one of my heroes, Jake Parker, Inktober is a month long appreciation of the art of drawing in ink and the practitioners that embrace that art. It also happens to be the perfect excuse to make me produce some more drawings. In celebration, I will be posting one ink drawing a day to my sketch blog, A Little Sketchy, for the entire month of October.

Last year, Inktober was a new challenge for me as I had never ever tried drawing every single day. It’s amazing how simple the concept sounds until real life tries to drown the endeavor out. Also, not being able to first plan my drawings in pencil became an unexpected hurdle as, on several occasions, I literally drew myself into a corner.

Will I rise to this year’s challenge?
Will my drawings progress?
Will you (the Internet) even care?!

Stay tuned to see the drawings.

There was nowhere for me to hide in week 4. My old characters came back to yell at me, 2 drawings were left incomplete and I only had marginal success with establishing some poses. After the successes of week 3, you’d think I would be able to ride the high and tell more of a story with each drawing. Sadly, that didn’t happen and I struggled with each night’s drawing. At least you know I’m honest with my work.

Still, there were some drawings that I ended up being very happy with and I tend to not like my work until some time has passed so perhaps it’s not the near-failure I’m making it out to be. You can be the judge of that.

Color!

Having slayed some personal demons during week 2, I was determined to add some polish and color to my drawings. The truth is I love coloring digitally. Digital coloring lets you go wild and experiment without the permanence I’ve experienced with paint, pastels and such. I still had to push myself but the fun was back. I’m really pleased with some of these.
