Just a wee update before we all eat ourselves into mini-comas of thankfulness.
Kelly and I had our latest doctor’s visit this morning to find that yet again…wait for it…nothing has changed! Sophie is healthy. Kelly is healthy. We still wait. Actually, it’s good news to get almost carbon-copy checkup results in the positive but we feel it’s about time for this train to get moving. Kelly actually came to me the other morning in excitement over having painful contractions through the night. Sadly, pain seems to be the only indication of progress we currently have.

The current plan is that if Sophie doesn’t make her grand entrance before the next doctor appointment, we will turn on a light at the end of the tunnel by making a birthing plan to induce.

In related news, we are planning the most uncomplicated thanksgiving holiday. Hooray for family and friends willing to travel in order to eat thanksgiving feast off of tray tables in our tiny living room. I think we have enough chairs…

*cue a blues harmonica while I complain*

Oh my goodness are we ever ready for Sophie to come out already! I say “we” because when Kelly does not get good sleep, neither do I. This week has been one big problem after another and frankly, we are ready for issues that are more productive than this last batch. Kelly has entered the final stages of pregnancy which includes, but is not limited to, being uncomfortable 99% of the time. (All you moms out there know what I’m talkin’ bout.) This uncomfortability extends through the night and interferes with sleep at will. It’s one thing to have pain because the baby is trying to come out and meet us; a whole other thing when it is seemingly unexplainable stuff that the doctors explain as “I don’t know, the baby just probably needs to come out.”

*sigh*

Anywhoo, on the bright side, Kelly and I are massively thankful for our wonderfully understanding jobs/bosses. I’m not exagerating when I say we feel like they are a blessing from God. I’ve got a whole system up and running so I can bring my work back and forth from my work computer to my home computer without hardly missing a beat. (Thanks ChronoSync!) Also, I was able to complete a coloring excercise tonight. Some of you may recognize this character as Asuka Langley Soryu from Neon Genesis Evangelion. I did this exercise based off of a custom figure someone made in Japan. It was fun to do and it taught me not to shade along the edges. (A mistake many beginners like me make.) I still don’t know how people can color without reference photographs but it’s satisfying when you blend some colors and it actually looks like a real shape. Next time I need to try a more painterly brush. Well, you can tell it’s late and I need to go to bed. Tomorrow is a sleep-in day and I need to get started!

Today marks Kelly’s ninth month of pregnancy! It’s been too fast at times and far too slow at others. I’m sure we will say the same once Sophie is born as well.
Because of the increasing demands on Kelly’s body and our lack of sleep, posting updates has become difficult to accomplish. The whole world doesn’t need to know about all the messy details but we also don’t want to bore you with cold facts either. I am finding that blogging about something so intimate and immediate is far more difficult than when we went to Japan. (Some of you are saying “duh!”) I guess what I’m trying to say for both Kelly and I is that although we want to keep all of you readers in the know, it is difficult to sit down at a keyboard and distill life-changing events into a few paragraphs. We will try our best but neither of us are professional writers.

So anyway, we had another trip to the hospital Monday night as Kelly awoke at 1am having trouble breathing. We quickly went to the maternity triage where we learned that she was having a bad case of acid reflux which was blocking her esophagus due to the “relaxin” chemical her body has been producing. Both mom and baby-in-the-belly are fine but taco night has been postponed untill further notice.

The baby shower my mother and our close friend Bobbi threw for us was great. A big thank you to everyone who came and a we miss you to those who couldn’t make it. Who knew one tiny human could have so much stuff! I don’t think I brought this much when I went to college! Unlike the baby however, I wasn’t expected to throw up on it all. (insert college party joke here)

Lastly, I’m still pumped at the idea of becoming a dad. I find myself daydreaming about all of the things we are going to do together. Just the idea of being able to let her sleep on my chest makes me smile. I can’t wait to meet her.

Went to the Doctor yesterday and found out Sophie is 5 pounds and growing. She has a little less than 5 weeks left so the anticipated birth weight will be around 8 pounds. WHEW! No 10 pounder for us, thank the Lord. The doctor said I checked out well and Sophie sounded good. She is head down and ready to enter the world. Greg and I are excited to meet our little daughter. I am also excited about getting my body back and not feeling like an elephant. My feet, hands and face could use some rest from being so bloated and my back needs a vacation from all the weight it is carrying around. I do have to say that my body has held up pretty well through this whole ordeal, but having a “normal” body again would be wonderful.

So, here is to normal size babies and getting my body back. 4.5 weeks to go!

Just an update to let everyone know that on Monday night Kelly had too many contractions in one hour so it was off to the hospital. The end result was positive with the doctor telling us that she has just entered a new phase where contractions will come more frequently. The other good news came after Sophie was monitored for about an hour. The doctor looked at her chart and repeatedly exclaimed how healthy she was. That’s always a boost that makes us feel great.

I’ve been trying to quickly learn some of the most time-intensive stuff while I can still get extra sleep. This month, I decided to get serious about my Gundam modeling since my robot army has grown past the point where I’m satisfied with just putting them together. I’ve been learning how to plan custom coloring, prepare the model, airbrush colors and clear-coats, and use real paint for panel lines. It has taken lots of online research, trying to understand videos that aren’t in English, and some very messy mistakes but I think I’m getting the hang of the whole process. I will post my progress when I finish my first custom paint job.

While Greg is out in the shed/out-building/laundry room/whatever we call that building painting his Gundam model, I thought I would blog.

I did go to the orthopedic guy and well, there is really nothing he can do for me. I am pretty much going to be in pain for a few more months. It is bursitis and it is not fun. I had it real bad in my left hip before and during my wedding and it is back again for another special moment in my life. The right side is not as bad as the left, but both hurt. The doctor said there was nothing he could do for me except give me a cortisone shot (if my OB approves it). So, not wanting that lovely shot, I will stick it out and hobble around. A wonderful coworker gave me some cherry pit packs (stick in freezer to chill) to put on my hips and that was wonderful.

Also, my heartburn has decide to make a comeback. That means no tomatoes, tomato based products, acidic fruit or juice, CHOCOLATE, heavy dairy (oh like ice cream), greasy or fried foods and no caffiene or alcohol (which after no sleep, painful hips and crazy cats I was seriously considering; okay not really). I sleep sitting up more and that allows me to get out of bed faster to beat on the cats (which I guess is a plus in some weird way).

Beyond all this I am doing well. Sophie is kicking harder and harder and her movements have become more fluid. She is claiming more and more real estate (location, location, location) in my tummy which is weird when she kicks me on the side or way above my belly button. I always think, “How the heck did she get up there?” Of course the OB assures me that I am not big at all and Sophie will have way more room in the next couple of months. And that is something that someone who feels like a house already wants to hear.

I hope all is going well with everyone else. I had fun with the links in this post. Some people will understand some of the references. More soon!
