Just a quick post while I have a second to let everybody know that we are at the hospital in our delivery room now. (Thank you iPhone.) Kelly is dialated 4cm currently and they are going to break her water soon. She isn’t expected to deliver until after dark this evening but its all a waiting game at this point. Thank you for your prayers.

I will be updating this post via the comments as things progress and I have a chance.

  1. 5:30pm - The doctor has come and gone. Kelly’s water has been broken, they’ve given her an epidural and now she is resting before the time comes. It’s so nice to be in a place where somebody has an answer to all of this new stuff we are experiencing. Too bad there wont be any such answers as she grows up. :)
I’m in our darkened room watching the evening sunset on a nearby lake with white birds fluttering past red-lined clouds. Our daughter’s strong little heartbeat is the only sound. I am thinking of all of you as I try to contain my excitement for the new girl we are about to finally meet. Life is an amazing adventure.

  2. 7:38 - Kelly is finally getting the sleep she despitately needs. I’m still too excited (and cold) to get into a deep sleep. The latest delivery estimate is around midnight.

  3. 8:01-The moon is big and full. I guess its lunar pull was enough to becon Sophis.

  4. 8:45-The doctor has given Kelly some “pitoson” to strengthen the contractions. We are both a little too excited to sleep.

  5. Advice to future fathers:
    - Do your best to be polite to all the goobers who ask you “Ya havin a baby?” as you slow-march your painfully obvious pregnant wife to the maternity ward.
    - Pregnant women are hot. Wear long sleves and pants to survive the icebox you will be spending most of your time. Also, nurses frown upon using the babies heat lamp for yourself so ask for a blanket instead.
    - Only eat the least aromatic foods in the delivery room. Your wife (who will not be permitted to eat anything but ice chips) will kick your butt out if you dare to come into the delivery room with a buffalo chicken sandwich and some fries. Beleve me, I know of this first hand.
    - When said buffalo chicken sandwich must be eaten in under two minutes, you will get some nasty tummy aches. Also, the disgusted stares of the entire waiting room will not help with digestion either.
    - Try to get plenty of sleep before this long night. This is a near impossibility but I mention it because that’s what all of the nurses and doctors will repeatedly inform you of their desire for you to have done so.

  6. - Nursing is an underappreciated profession. Be as nice to your nurse as possble and don’t laugh when the doctor asks you if you are “keeping his girls busy.”
    - Did I mention the room will be freakin cold?
    - A phone with a good text messaging plan and full keyboard is a sound investment.
    - Never underestimate how important your encouragement is. Encourage the baby outta her. She won’t notice you are repeating yourself if you really mean it.
    - Maybe I should get another blanket…
    - Get used to drinking water from a fountain as it will not only be the closest source of liquid but doesn’t cost movie theater prices every time you need a sip.
    - Hospital sofas and beds are designed for steraility rather than comfort. To practice at home, try to sleep on your couch cushions wrapped in trash bags.

So is it all over yet? Its hard to tell from that last post….but either way, congratulations man!! Your a dad! I can’t wait to join the club, only 9 more months! Don’t hesitate to ask for anything you need from us helpwise, we are here for you and kelly and sophie! I know things are going to be crazy for you three for the next couple of days (or months or years) but once it has kinda died down we would love to see you. Tell Kelly we wish you the best. Love you man!— Daniel and Briana

  8. 11:28-No baby yet. We are still measuring contractions and stuff. I have no idea when we will get this show on the road.

  9. Michelle

I’m so excited for you Greg… you’re so close! Thanks for the posts!

  10. Midnight - Still no real timeline of when things will get going. The doctor is concerned not to tire out the baby so some extra steps are being taken. I will update when something happens. (Or more likely, afterwards.)

  11. YEAH!!! We love you guys and we are praying for you. Dave and Bobbi
