First Day of Daycare

I should note that we were both tired and worn out when this was written.
Today was Sophie’s first day at daycare and it would have been great, however Greg and I had to witness an 11 month old bop Sophie over the head with a stuffed caterpillar, push her over and crawl on her. Unfortunately, Greg and I had stepped out of the room already and had to try in vain not to rush in and save her. Thankfully the daycare worker came over and picked her up and tried to get her to stop crying. The last thing Greg and I heard as we left was our daughter bawling. **sigh**

We decided to go to breakfast just the two of us to enjoy some freedom, however all we did was lament about not having Sophie with us. We sat and thought about what she was doing, if the daycare worker was putting her down for a nap, if she was still crying and if we should just go back and get her. I really don’t remember if breakfast tasted good or not.

After breakfast Greg and I came home and both of us passed out in bed for two hours. We both woke up at noon and felt a lot better. When 12:45 hit, Greg and I jumped in the Scion and drove over to the daycare to get Sophie. We really couldn’t wait until 1:00. She was asleep in the arms of the daycare worker when she arrived. They said she cried pretty much the whole time, wouldn’t sleep or eat. She finally passed out at 12:25 in the daycare worker’s arms and wouldn’t let her get up to put her in the crib. She was VERY happy to see Greg and I. When she saw me she started squeal and reached out for me. I took her and gave her a big hug and kiss. This is going to be a difficult week for all of us. **sigh**

  1. Poor baby! Poor Mom and Dad too! It was good to see Sophie yesterday; she looks none the worse for her daycare experience, just tired. Hang in there; she’ll adjust soon. I know how hard it is to see our babies have new, uncomfortable experiences. Hugs for you all!

  2. Just a small update. Sophie had a better day at daycare today. She sleep for about an hour, took a few sips from a bottle and ate the tofu I sent. She even munched on some cheerios the daycare woman had. She did cry still when she noticed we weren’t there, but it seems to be getting better.
Hopefully by Friday or early next week she will feel comfortable enough to play with the other kids and explore her new world. It would make Greg and I feel less stressed.
