Cravings, calories and Starbucks

It always hap­pens that right when I am drink­ing my decaf Caramel Macchiato from Starbucks and woof­ing down a slice of dou­ble choco­late loaf that I read about the 50 serv­ings of fruits and veg­eta­bles I should be con­sum­ing. It is like the sci­en­tific com­mu­nity has noth­ing bet­ter to do than to fig­ure out the exact amount of vit­a­mins and min­er­als preg­nant woman should be ingest­ing and at what time. They always pref­ace it with, “Not that the decaf Caramel Macchiato and dou­ble choco­late loaf will “harm” your baby, BUT you should watch your “empty” calo­ries to make sure you aren’t pack­ing on the pounds.”

These folks have no idea about crav­ings. Like the one I had the other night at 9:00 when I made Greg run out to Baskin Robbins and get a pint of Chocolate Fudge ice cream. That was pol­ished off in a mat­ter of a half hour. Honestly, that has really been the only, “Honey, can you go out and get me.…” crav­ing that I have had. (The hour trip to Big Boys to get a Slim Jim doesn’t count because I came along for the ride.) Actually, Greg is quite grate­ful that I am not send­ing him out at all hours to retrieve food for me. Of course, Lakeland rolls up the side­walks at 8:00 so I don’t have much to choose from anyway.

All and all I think I eat pretty well. I am con­sum­ing grapes, apples, can­taloupe, straw­ber­ries and plums at all hours of the day. I also have whole grain bread, spinach, salmon, shrimp, chicken and some sort of beans pretty much each week as well. Of course, that is sup­ple­mented by choco­late chips, ice cream, bagels and cream cheese and a steady sup­ply of decaf Starbucks. Of course, those doc­tors keep telling me, “Gain a pound a week!” Well, I am doing my best. :)

  1. Yes, those sci­en­tists just don’t under­stand those “I HAVE to have it crav­ings!” And believe me there are those times when you HAVE to have it! LOL I had a HAVE to with each of mine…Reese’s Peanut Butter cups with Katelyn, a steak from Outback Steakhouse with DJ, & shrimp scampi (ate like 4 in one sit­ting) from Red Lobster & decaf cap­puc­cino blast from Baskin Robbins with Natalee. Anyway, sounds to me like you’re doing a great job feed­ing that lit­tle one. But ya gotta give in to the crav­ings some­times! Just keep plug­ging along!
